In December 2002, Carillion Alawi LLC changed its legal name from Tarmac Alawi LLC (formerly Wimpey Alawi) to reflect the change in ownership of the foreign shareholding.

The company has been active in Oman since 1965, in the early days mainly development infrastructure for the oil industry with Petroleum Development Oman and facilities for Armed Forces and Government Ministries. Since then, the company has been involved in the construction of many industrial projects, restoration and construction of prestigious buildings, roads and harbours. Rusayl Power Station, Oman Cement Company Housing Complex, Fort Jalali-Muscat, Royal Hospital, Asma bint Qais Zawawi Mosque, Oman International Bank Headquarters, Salalah Container Terminal Project, Sultan Qaboos Port Development and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque are evidence of the company's standards of workmanship and experise.


Carillion Alawi LLC was established in 1979, as a locally registered company with a majority Omani shareholding. Its registration No. 1/8348/1 with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry as a building, civil engineering, mechanical and electrical contractor and with Tender Board as an Excellent Grade contractor, the highest level of contractor grading in the Sultanate of Oman under No. MQ/18.


Carillion Alawi LLC are registered to ISO 9001 in the following activities:-

"Engineering design, procurement, construction of multi-disciplinary projects in process, petro-chemical, marine and power industries, construction improvement, repair of building and civil engineering works"

Carillion Alawi are also registered to ISO 14001 and ISO 18001.

Carillion Alawi LLC has the capability of undertaking the following:-

1)	All types of building works including residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
2)	All types of civil engineering works including concrete structures, foundations, pavements, drainage, marine works, roadworks and airfield works.
3)	Concrete repair works including the latest hydro demolition technology.
4)	Through its laboratory division all types of material and chemical testing, site investigations, concrete and asphalt technology, and in association with cathodic protection and environmental divisions.

Carillion Alawi LLC is a principal associated undertaking of Carillion PLC of the United Kingdom which has been involved in the construction industry for over 80 years worldwide and who provides technical and other support services when required.

Carillion PLC was formed when Tarmac demerged its construction business units from its heavy building materials division in July 1999.


Some 147 senior technical and managerial staff, and about 1060 technicians and tradesmen are employed at the current time within the Sultanate of Oman. To meet specific demands in excess of existing resources within the Oman, Carillion Alawi are able to draw upon the large number of managerial/technical staff and construction personnel employed by the Carillion Group worldwide.

By its association with Carillion Capital Projects, Carillion Alawi also has the capability to undertake major projects.
